taking a weekend off...

A girl's weekend.  I am off to Park City with some of my besties.  A little Christmas shopping, a lot of food, but most of all lots of laughter.  It fills my soul with hope and renews my heart.  Sometimes a girl just needs to be a girl!

Hope your weekend is wonderful!

That time of the year again...

It is that time of the year.  Sick time.  Ugh.  Ellie has been sick for a few days and it looks like I have it too.  After sleeping for 2 days straight, I feel much better.  My house however looks like a tornado hit it.  *sigh* So much for a Mom sick day, right?

Sam is healing and recovering quickly.  It is easier the second time around when you know what to expect.  The damage on his left side was not a bad as his right hip.  There is a chance he may never have surgery on his left again. *crosses fingers*  He will have a full hip replacement eventually on his right hip, though.

Now, we sound like a geriatric blog.  Really, he is only 38.  I don't know what happened...

The kids are all adjusted and loving the charter school.  It is fun to listen to them bust through the door and tell me all about their day.  They can be rather enthusiastic..wonder where they get that.  Wearing uniforms has been a wonderful blessing.  Riley started 7th grade this year, and Katie does next year.  No arguing about name brands has been fantastic.  Not that they even know what that means, yet.

So far so good on the Laundry.  Each of them has a day of the week and does two loads, one of which includes their sheets.  Clean clothes.  Clean sheets.  Happy Mom.  Although Ellie still struggles to make her bed by herself.  Practice.  By the time she is a Mom she will have it perfected!   ( I hope. )

Now if I can just get well!  All will be good and dandy.  So, what are you doing for Thanksgiving???
We are headed to Sam's sisters.  She is pretty freakin' awesome if I do say so, myself.  We are haveing dinner potluck style at the church across the street from her home.  The boys will play basketball,  the kids will run wild and the gals will probably all chat and crochet.  ( I don't crochet, it makes me violent)

On Friday we will head up to my Mom's to repeat the gluttonous affair.

Hope yours is yummy and fantastic!
XOXO

The Art of Responsibility

Laundry...

Strikes fear into the hearts of Mothers worldwide...

Until....you make the kids wash their own!

So, we had a family meeting on Monday.  We talked about responsibility.  It makes us grow as individuals.  Teaches us to take care of what we have and be grateful for it.  It is time for the kids to be responsible for the clothing, towels, sheets and blankets they string across this home.  We purged the closets to about 5 outfits per child.  ( They wear uniforms to school )  Each was given a basket and their very own color coded towels.  Then each was assigned a laundry day.  To be started by stripping their bed and getting sheets into the wash.  By the time we leave for school they could have 2 loads done.  Which is pretty much all of it when they only have 5 outfits.  I must admit, it has been liberating to donate what they don't/ won't/ can't wear.  We are so spoiled.  The sheer amount of clothes we have donated is a testimony to that.  And when I hear that washer running now...it sounds like music.
Sweet, sweet music.
