July

Isn't it funny how all my posts begin with a new month and I am still surprised?  July.  A month long celebration of independence!  I firmly believe that freedom is never free.  There are too many who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.  Take a moment to say a prayer of thanks...for those who have gone to war and never come home.  For those who do and are never the same.  For those who continue the battle for freedom...wherever they may be.

Recently when I had a layover in an airport it was an honor to see something that I will never forget.  There were many young men and women in uniform waiting to board a flight.  They were allowed on with the first class passengers.  To my awe and surprise an older gentleman walked down several terminals and stood with tears streaming down his cheeks while he stood at attention with his hand in salute to these amazing soldiers.  It was beautiful.  It was beyond patriotic.  I have never been so proud to call myself an American as I was in that moment.  The man was obviously a veteran who held those who are serving in the highest esteem.  It was a valuable lesson to learn.  I carry it close to my heart.

And thank my Grandad and all those in my family who have ever served this country.  Whether in war time or in times of peace.  Service is Freedom.  And Freedom is never, ever free.  As I ponder the true cost of war...my heart nearly breaks.

Whatever lucky stars I was born under to be American...I am proud.  I will stand with my hand over my heart when I see soldiers.  I will thank them when I see them.  Whether in an airport, the store or the gas station.  I will thank them.  I will try to do my part, however small, to raise good, honest, hardworking kids.  That they may bless this nation simply by being in it.

May Freedom Ring.
Loud. Long. True!
